Some shots of Osaka to celebrate Culture Day...

November 3rd in Japan is a national holiday known as Culture Day. It is also the birthday of the Meiji Emperor (many national holidays fall on dead emperors' birthdays). I wandered around Osaka-Jo, Temmabashi and Tenjinbashi-suji to see how people were celebrating.

"Canadian arrested for marijuana possession appeared in NHK drama"

From The Mainichi Daily News (11/4/19):

A Canadian actor who appeared in an episode aired last Sunday of Japanese public broadcaster NHK's popular period drama "Ryomaden" was arrested in September for allegedly possessing marijuana at his apartment in Japan, NHK and other sources said Wednesday.

The 37-year-old actor, identified by Japanese police as Caspi Troy Alexander, appeared as a supporting cast member by playing a British sailor killed by a samurai warrior with a sword strike in Nagasaki, according to NHK, officially known as Japan Broadcasting Corp.

NHK said it learned of his arrest and indictment after receiving an e-mail message from a viewer following the episode's broadcast. The broadcaster will delete his name from the closing credits of the drama when it reruns the episode on Saturday (emphasis added).

The Canadian was arrested Sept. 10 for alleged possession of marijuana at his apartment in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, in breach of the Cannabis Control Law. The shooting involving his appearance took place in August.

The drama depicts the life of Sakamoto Ryoma, a 19th century political activist, who was an important leader in the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate government.

And NHK solves another problem...

Beauty in Contemporary Japan: Fall 2010 Body/Comm Poster Workshop

Beauty entails paying special attention to specific problem areas.
Beauty expressed in advertisements entails computer generated imagery.
Beauty entails sexy poses inspired by animals.
Body/Comm students working on their posters.
Once again Body/Comm students earnestly researched and created posters about ideal body image and beauty in Japan. Commons themes included working on and fixing specific problem areas through make-up, surgery, enhancement products and weight loss devices and the impossibly of a living ideal body. Kinda depressing this semester... Anyway here are their posters:
