Halloween: A Legitimate Time for Cosplay?

This is how Halloween was celebrated at my university; the celebration gets bigger and bigger every year with both international and Japanese students, faculty and staff participating. Was Halloween the origin of cosplay? Or was it Star Trek conventions? Cross-dressers?

Belly Dancing in Kobe: That's Globalization!

As posted a while back in VAOJ, belly dancing is quite popular in Japan. And in our recent Globalization Fieldtrip to Kobe, we encountered some belly dancers at the Kitano Art Festival.

Fall 2010 Globalization Kobe Fieldtrip

Students from the Japan and Globalization class and special guests recently went on a fieldtrip to Kobe in search of globalization. And globalization they found: belly dancers in Kitano (see future separate post), Turkish ice cream in Nankin Machi and Halloween treats in Harbor area. Congratulations to Sam and Francesco for winning the Kobe Globalization Photo Contest - their respective photos appear below.
